Urban Planner/Designer

Multiple locations

Experience Level: Mid-Level

AICP Certification: AICP Not required

Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000 annually

Code Studio is currently looking to fill multiple full-time positions in one of our local offices – Los Angeles, Atlanta, Austin, or Toronto/Hamilton.

Help Shape the Future of Cities

We are seeking ambitious, creative, and curious urban planners/designers to join our growing team. This is not a position where you'll spend years making redlines and watching others do the interesting work. From day one, you'll be immersed in transformative planning and zoning projects that influence how communities grow, evolve, and thrive.

Our work spans the country—from major zoning code rewrites and form-based codes to comprehensive plans, development regulations, housing initiatives, and urban design frameworks. We help communities tackle some of their most pressing challenges: housing affordability, equitable growth, climate resilience, walkability, economic development, and neighborhood character.

If you're energized by the idea of helping write the rules that shape cities, this may be the opportunity you've been looking for.

What You'll Do

As an Urban Planner/Designer, you'll work directly with nationally recognized planners, urban designers, and code writers on projects across North America. Responsibilities include:

  • Researching planning, zoning, housing, and development issues
  • Assisting with zoning code audits and zoning code drafting
  • Preparing maps, graphics, and presentation materials
  • Supporting public engagement efforts and community workshops
  • Conducting fieldwork and documenting urban design conditions
  • Writing reports, policy recommendations, and planning documents
  • Assisting with project management and client coordination
  • Contributing ideas and solutions to complex planning challenges

What We're Looking For

Someone with 3 to 5 years of private consulting experience in planning, zoning, or urban design. We are looking for individuals who are motivated team players, have excellent verbal, visual, and written communicators, and most importantly, are passionate about building diverse and inclusive communities. Our goal is to develop and equip emerging leaders interested in furthering their careers in the diverse fields of urban design and planning. Ideal candidates will have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Excellent graphic and visual presentation abilities
  • Familiarity with zoning, land use planning, urban design, or housing policy
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, ArcGIS, or similar tools
  • Strong Sketch-Up skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to learn
